Limone Sul Garda | A charming town on the banks of Lake Garda, Italy by Josiah Edbrooke

Nestled on the western shores of Lake Garda in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, Limone sul Garda is a picturesque gem known for its lemon-themed charm, lakefront views, and rich history. Once accessible only by boat, this lakeside town now welcomes travellers via scenic mountain roads and frequent ferry services, offering an idyllic blend of relaxation and exploration.

Where We Stayed: Peace Just Outside the Centre

We based ourselves at Locanda Ruscello, the is hotel located about 15 to 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of Limone. This proved ideal—close enough to enjoy the town’s restaurants and attractions, yet far enough to escape the crowds that descend on Limone during peak hours.

The hotel features a private lakeside pool that boasts breathtaking views and a tranquil atmosphere. Just a five-minute stroll away lies a lovely public beach, perfect for a refreshing swim in the cool, clear waters of Lake Garda.

The Walk into Town: Scenic and Serene

The Via Nova road offers a leisurely walk into town, passing lemon groves, stone walls, and panoramic views—especially lovely from the Chiesa di San Rocco. On your way, you’ll pass small trinket shops and boutique stores that begin to hint at the town’s famous lemon obsession.

Eventually, you’ll reach the ferry dock, where most day-trippers arrive. Right here, you’ll find House of Lemonade and Spritz, a delightful one-stop shop for all things citrus. Be sure to try their takeaway window for a refreshing lemonade or a twist on the classic spritz.

Heading straight along from the dock brings you to Piazza Garibaldi, home to several lakeside restaurants, including Ristorante Gemma, known for delicious local dishes and stunning views.

For something sweet, stop by one of the many bakeries and gelaterias nearby—perfect for sitting around the piazza’s fountain and soaking in the ambience.

Should you wander up Via Antonio Moro, you’ll discover more tucked-away shops and cafés, ideal for a quieter experience and the occasional bargain.

Further into the centre, there are numerous B&Bs, but for a more restful stay, we recommend lodging just outside the town. For souvenirs, La Banca offers a wide range of local gifts and keepsakes, while a number of smaller supermarkets and clothing stores behind the promenade can meet any practical needs.

Don’t miss the iconic “I ❤️ Limone” sign along the lakeside, where wooden lounge chairs on a jetty provide a serene place to relax and admire views towards Riva del Garda, visible at the far end of the lake.

A short walk from the town centre brings you to Spiaggia Cola, a large pebble beach ideal for swimming and sunbathing. It’s also a good spot for nature lovers—keep an eye out for small lake snakes; we even spotted one catching a fish!
